PROGRAM PROFILE: Columbia Memorial Hospital's Mobile Dental Services
Columbia Memorial Hospital's Mobile Dental Services is a community outreach program that serves participating children at every school district in Columbia and Greene Counties in New York State via a mobile dental van. Columbia and Greene Counties are rural New York counties where access to transportation is a barrier to care. Both counties are also dental Health Provider Shortage Areas (HPSA).
The Columbia Memorial Hospital dental project team consists of a licensed dentist, registered dental hygienist, dental assistant, directing dentist and dental manager. Our dental van visits elementary schools to deliver services on-site. Services are also provided for the Columbia and Greene County Head Start programs and adult and child residents are served in July and August during the Summer Outreach.
Services are provided regardless of ability to pay. Children without dental insurance are provided care at no cost. Adults are seen on a sliding fee scale if they are not insured.
Columbia Memorial Hospital’s Mobile Dental Services are primarily funded by the Foundation for Community Health. Through their funding, children from the Taconic Hills School district receive mobile dental van services and education to promote good oral hygiene. In addition, the children receive an education booklet, writing utensils and a bag of dental care products for home.
